VIERZEHNHEILIGEN 1743-72 church

The history of Vierzehnheiligen goes back to the year 1445 when a child appeared on the hills of Bamberg, approached a shepherd then suddenly disappeared. He appeared back to the same shepherd on the following year. Along with 14 companions the boy requested that a chapel be built right on the spot where he first appeared. The pilgrimage church was located opposite the monastery of Banz at Bamberg, Germany. The architect Johann Bathasar Neumann built the exterior with an impressive twin-tower fa├žade in a late Baroque or Rococo style and a Latin-cross Basilica. The interior will take you to a different world with its rich and dynamic effect of colossal columns and pilasters. In the center lies the amazingly designed Rococo altar of the fourteen saints.
